Sad or Happy ending ?..

In the last chapter of the Graveyard Book Bod starts to lose his powers in the Graveyard. He is now roughly sixteen and there is only so much more that the graveyard people can do for him. In the end his mother tells him bye and everyone else, then he gets to Silas and is confused why everyone is telling him goodbye, and Silas tells him that he is getting older now and the world is out there waiting for him to explore it. Bod almost doesn't know what to say, but he leaves the Graveyard with good intentions on going and living his life while he can. Do you think the ending to this book was sad or happy? and what do you think Bod will do with his life?

Chapter Seven!

In the graveyard book in chapter seven so much happens. The biggest part for me was how the man that Scarlett had became friends with was actually the guy that killed Bod's family. In the book the man Jack tricks Bod into going into his old baby room and pulls what is supposed to be a letter turns out to be a knife. Bod runs to the graveyard with Scarlett and he hides her and he sets up traps for all the men to fall into to get rid of them, and be safe. I found it interesting that everyone except the one who killed his family seemed pretty easy to get rid of. In the end the Sleer takes Jack with him and Bod and Scarlett are safe. Silas shows up and erases Scarlett's memory. Today i couldn't imagine how it would be like if some guy came along that only wanted the best for me, but that consisted of one of my best friends forgetting all about me. Do you think Silas did the right thing there by erasing Scarlett's memory?

Silas Guardian or Hero ?

In the Graveyard book Nobody has a guardian that goes and gets food for him and watches over him. Silas is a vampire so he can go out in the town unlike the rest of Nobody's family. In the sixth chapter Bod gets mad at Silas because he wont let him go back to school. Bod runs away from the graveyard and ends up caught by the police. Bod is young and doesn't know exactly what to do. Silas comes and jumps out in front of the police car and causes them to hit him and Silas and Bod are both able to get away. In my opinion Silas seems more like a hero to Bod in this chapter rather than just a guardian. Silas truly cares about Bod and only wants what is best for him. I think Silas is portrayed more as a father than Mr. Owens is. Do you think Silas is more of a father figure or a guardian?

The Macabre...

In chapter five everyone is singing a song about the Macabre which turns out to be a big party in the town square, and the dead dance with the living. This chapter kind of confused me because i thought that the living could not see the dead,but obviously they can see them to dance with them. Bod dances with Liza and the Gray Lady which is the lady that rides her horse and represents death. The next day everyone asks as if that never happened and Bod doesn't understand why. He goes to Silas, but Silas won't even talk much about it to him. To me this whole Macabre Dance seems like something almost like magic or something. What do you think of the Macabre? Do you think everyone really doesn't remember it or is just hiding it for a certain reason?

Liza...

In the Graveyard book. Nobody comes across a new friend and it is actually a teenage witch that lives in the Graveyard. The witches name is Liza. Liza only wishes for one thing and that is a headstone. Nobody takes the risk of leaving the graveyard to go find her a headstone, but gets locked up and Liza has to come make him invisible and he frees himself. I find it strange that Nobody would disobey his guardians when he knew he wasn't supposed to leave the graveyard all for this one friend that he doesn't even know that well. I think that because Bod has not been exposed to much outside of the graveyard he attaches himself to the interesting friends he does encounter. Do you think that Nobody attaches himself to certain people for a reason or just because he likes them?

Nanny 911..

In the Graveyard book, Silas has to leave Nobody for awhile. So, in his place he has a lady named Miss Lupesco come and be Nobody's guardian while he is gone. Miss Lupesco made me think of one of the ladies off of Nanny 911. She comes in and starts making Nobody eat all these nasty things that he doesn't like. She also makes him do lessons. Miss Lupesco might seem mean to Nobody, but deep down she only has the best interest for him. Today kids do not realize that their parents are only pushing them hard in school because they want what is best for them. This concept is even hard for me to grasp sometimes. Do you ever find yourself upset when your parents ground you or make you do something you don't want to do,but really when its all over most likely they did it for a reason? I have been there many times and i think that is how Nobody is feeling when Miss Lupesco first comes in, but by the end of the chapter he ends up appreciating what she has done for him.

Ghosts.. Friendly or not ?

In the Graveyard Book, the setting is obviously a graveyard, which graveyards are known to have ghosts haunting them. In this book the baby , Nobody, finds his way to the graveyard and 2 ghosts appear and decide to take him in as their own child. When i read this i found it absolutely crazy that ghosts could raise a child. Most people today portray ghosts as being scary figures, but in this book the ghosts become this child's family. They are very loving to the baby which just doesn't seem right to us. I myself always pictured ghosts as being scary, and mean, but after reading this book i am pretty sure that my beliefs will change. I think this is one of very few books or movies that have ghosts portrayed as friendly creatures. I can think of one other movie where a ghost is friendly and that would be Casper. Can you think of anymore? Did you find it strange for the ghosts to be friendly in this book?

Orphan

In the Graveyard Book one of the main characters becomes an orphan, due to the murdering of the rest of his family. The child is named Nobody and later is taken in by two ghosts. Nobody is very lucky in my opinion because there are many kids out there who are orphans, and aren't able to get parents as quick as nobody did. Do you think more kids today are taken in quicker or stay in the orphanages longer? In many other books and movies the protagonist is an orphan for example in the movie Harry Potter and in the story Cinderella. Can you think of any more movies that the main character is an orphan? This is just the start of this book, but it was something that i found interesting.
